Description
This 4-day immersive program introduces visitors to the landscapes, culture, and traditions of the Chilean Patagonia. Based in Cerro Castillo National Park, Puerto Tranquilo, and Puerto Ibáñez, visitors will explore glaciers, forests, and lakes while engaging directly with local communities. Activities include boat tours, hiking, and artisan workshops, offering a deep understanding of the region’s ecological richness and cultural heritage.

Itineraries
Day 1 –
- Arrival at Balmaceda Airport. Visitors are met by guides and transportation, and begin travel south on the Carretera Austral.
- Guided hike in Cerro Castillo National Park at Laguna Chiguay; introduction to Patagonian ecosystems.
- Box lunch and tasting of local products, including mate (traditional local tea).
- Travel to Puerto Tranquilo village (approx. 3 hours by road).
- Dinner and lodging in Puerto Tranquilo.
Day 2 –
- Early morning boat trip on General Carrera Lake to explore the Marble Caves (Capillas de Mármol) and visit local historical sites in Puerto Sánchez.
- Reflection on conservation and local communities around the lake.
- Visitors eat lunch on their own at a restaurant of their choosing in Puerto Rio Tranquilo.
- Afternoon transfer north along Carretera Austral to Villa Cerro Castillo.
- Lodging in cabins and dinner at local restaurant.
Day 3 –
- Travel to Puerto Ibáñez, “the town of the wind,” on the shores of Lago General Carrera (aka Lago Chelenko).
- Morning visit to clay artisans Marfa and Joel; hands-on workshop with traditional clay and wood.
- Lunch at Puerto Ibañez.
- Return to Villa Cerro Castillo.
- Preparation of traditional “asado” (grilled steak) and “sopaipillas” (fried bread) with local hosts.
Day 4 –
- Morning visit to “Paredón de las Manos” archaeological site.
- Farewell lunch.
- Transfer to Balmaceda Airport for departure in early afternoon.
